Implementation of Health Information Exchange for the Flemish Hospital Network
UZ Leuven is leading the implementation of the Health Information Exchange for the Flemish Hospital Network (VznkuL), a network of 18 hospitals across Flanders, Belgium. The network enables the exchange of clinical data across the network members and will interoperate with the Belgium federal eHealth initiative.

New solutions to more closely involve family doctors with care processes around their patients
Prof. Erwin Bellon, IT manager multimedia & telematica UZ Leuven: “Forcare is not only providing us with proven software to make a rapid start in our project. We have also agreed to a close cooperation between UZ Leuven and Forcare to build new applications. As an example, we will be using Forcare’s XDS Software Development Toolkit to offer new solutions to more closely involve the family doctors with the care processes around their patients.”
The HIE system is hosted by UZ Leuven and provides the core Forcare HIE components (Index, Repository, Auditing and Clinical Access Portal) to the network partners. Most of the partnering hospitals are using the Forcare connectivity tools to interface to the network and “XDS-enable” their existing systems.
