Release 2.4 - What's New in our XDS-based HIE

Forcare’s latest release includes new functionality that increases the value of your XDS-based health information exchange and increases your productivity.

Multiple Patient ID support in forIndex
One of the most complex challenge when implementing a health information exchange is the fact that each connected organization uses its own patient identification schema. As a result the same patient has many different IDs in various systems. In order to share clinical documents from these patients XDS requires the use of an "affinity domain" patient ID. This often requires the introduction of a Master Patient Index that links all of these IDs together. However, it will often occur that at the time of document submission the "affinity domain" patient ID is not (yet) available, and as a result no information can be shared. ForIndex has been extended to accept document submissions that use local patient IDs to identity the patient. For each (unique) ID a patient record is created in forIndex, allowing documents to be queried and retrieved through standard XDS transactions. Manual linking of these patient IDsis provided as a built-in function of forIndex. In large volume networks forIndex can integrate with an external MPI to automatically match patient records as soon as the affinity domain patient ID becomes available.

Patient Record Management
Through forView's user interface administrative users have the ability to manually create and modify patient records. Records can be linked using a built-in deterministic MPI by maintaining a list of patient IDs assigned to a patient record. Furthermore patient records can be linked to users accessing forView such that those users only have access to their patients.

Patient, Provider and Insurance information
To facilitate cross-site exchange of relevant patient demographic information forIndex can store additional patient data including provider and insurance information. This information can be displayed through forView.

Emergency Access
In order to access protected health information a user has the ability to overrule access control restriction is the situation dictates so. Before entering the emergency access mode user must provide a reason why access is needed. The provided reason including all access to protected health information is logged through IHE ATNA-based audit logging.

Document Subscriptions
ForIndex provides a standards-based notification mechanism through which changes in the registry are sent to pre-defined recipients. The notification framework is based on IHEs Document Subscribe Profile.

forBridge, Cross-Community Access
A new products is introducted with this release to enable cross-community access based on the IHE XCA Profile. Through forBridge two or more health information exchanges can be connected such that users with each community have access to each other clinical documents.

Document Life-cycle Managmeent
Since information is not static and may change after initial registration with forIndex different options are now provided to deal with more dynamic document content. ForIndex now support the latest XDS Profile additions for on-demand documents, deferred documents and off-line documents.

3rd Party Viewer Integration
It is now possible to embed 3rd party image viewers in forView to display images instead of using forViews built-in viewing functionality. Through this integration you can leverage your current clinical image viewers and offer rich viewing controls.
